Primary Music with Mrs. Smith
I love that I get to teach Music! I was a primary classroom teacher for 15 years, but for the past 7 years, I have had the honor of being a primary music teacher. When my own children were young, I taught private piano lessons out of my home for 11 years. I hold a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction and love the creativity of planning lessons for the music room.
Music holds such a special place in my life. I grew up singing and playing the piano and hope to spark that same joy and love for music in my students. Along with Core Knowledge songs, the Kindergarten, First, and Second Gradeclasses will practice the basic elements of music, listen to music for appreciation, learn about famous composers, and be exposed to different types of music from all over the world. My hope is that when the students come to my room they know this is a safe place to explore, sing, dance, create, and play music!

Jefferson Academy Elementary uses the Core Knowledge content guidelines that include a curriculum for Music. The music curriculum ties in closely to the grade level content being taught to the children in the classroom. To fully acknowledge our commitment to the Core Knowledge music sequence, all elementary students will attend music class at Jefferson Academy. Each grade level will participate in a musical performance one time a year.
