Computer Applications Video

In Computer Applications, spanning grades 3rd to 6th, students dive into digital skills, computer science, and responsible digital citizenship. Keyboarding skills are honed, and students explore a variety of applications and websites with a focus on safe, responsible use. Topics range from graphic design to video editing, offering a broad tech experience.

Third and fourth graders gain foundational coding skills through platforms like code.org and Scratch. Fifth and sixth graders advance to editing JavaScript, while 6th graders even begin Python projects. This year, we’re integrating the Computer Science Core Knowledge Curriculum, enhancing the learning experience with a comprehensive approach to computational thinking.

Our curriculum extends beyond technical skills, as students learn to format essays in MLA style and create engaging Google Slide presentations. We’re also excited to introduce discussions on AI responsibility, helping students understand emerging technologies thoughtfully. With our new 3D printer, students engage in hands-on projects that connect science and technology, strengthening cross-curricular connections.

About Mrs. Carroll

Hello! I'm Mrs. Carroll!

I'm passionate about teaching technology to our amazing students in grades 3-6 at Jefferson Academy, where I've been part of the school community for 10 wonderful years. This is my 6th year teaching, and before that, I worked in graphic design and presentation design—experiences that sparked my love for creativity, problem-solving, and helping others bring their ideas to life. I enjoy blending my design background with technology to create fun and engaging projects for my students, from coding to 3D printing.

I've been married for 29 years, have two wonderful daughters who have attended Jefferson Academy, and we share our home with our lovable American Bulldog, Chancho. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. We love traveling together and exploring new places, whether it’s discovering hidden gems nearby or adventuring somewhere far away. I especially enjoy visiting tropical destinations where I can relax in the sun, feel the ocean breeze, and be inspired by the beauty around me. 🌴

Teaching at Jefferson Academy is a true joy—I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to inspire creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in my students.
