Welcome to Intermediate Music
Grades 3-6 with Mrs. Ballard
Welcome to the wonderful and noisy world of Intermediate Music! My main goal is to instilling a love and appreciation of music that will hopefully follow your student throughout their lives. We have one large concert per grade level each year to showcase the singing, dancing and performance skills that we have been working on during classes. We will also be working hands-on with various types of instruments throughout the year with many opportunities in class to practice our performance skills. In addition to that, we will be covering all the music history, composers, theory, music elements and songs from our Core Knowledge Curriculum and the state music standards. I look forward to a fun and energetic year with my students!
Jefferson Academy Elementary uses the Core Knowledge content guidelines that include a curriculum for Music. The music curriculum ties in closely to the grade level content being taught to the children in the classroom. To cover the Core Knowledge music sequence and the elementary state standards for music, all elementary students will attend music class at Jefferson Academy. Students in grades 4 through 6 have the option to also choose Band as an elective instead of CKC.

Sock Hop Dress Up Day
I am Mrs. Ballard and I am in my 15th year of teaching JA Elementary Core Knowledge Music. I enjoy working with your students and instilling confidence and ownership of their musical abilities.
My goal is that the students enjoy music and will gain an appreciation of music that will last throughout their lives.
I get as many instruments into their hands as possible. We start with recorders, kalimbas, tongue drums, African drums, bucket drums and boomwhackers. We then move into pianos, bells and ukuleles as they get older. I want them to experience the joy of making music.
I also encourage the students to do small classroom performances, group performances, and Talent Spotlights to help them build self confidence and get over the fear of performing. We do this in a fun and engaging way throughout the year so it becomes more comfortable.
I look forward to this year and working with these great students!
