About Mr. Hollis

Mr. Hollis is coming into his second year at JA where he teaches 4th, 5th, and 6th grade band. He also teaches three sections of SEL to 1st grade students. Mr. Hollis is headed into his 4th year of teaching. He previously taught in Boulder Valley School District and at other schools in Jefferson County School District. Outside of JA, he is also the woodwind caption head and a visual instructor at Legacy High School with the Legacy Lightning Marching Band.

He truly believes that students of all ages are capable of making high quality music while performing modern, relevant repertoire. In 2025 JA's 6th grade band achieved top awards at local festivals such as the JeffCo Middle School Band Festival, and the Music in the Parks Festival.

Mr. Hollis moved to Colorado from Arkansas after completing dual Bachelors Degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Upon moving to Colorado, Mr. Hollis completed his Masters Degree in Music Education with a focus on instrumental conducting at the University of Colorado Boulder, all while teaching in the local communities.

Outside of the classroom he is an avid outdoorsman. You will often find him clinging to a wall of rock or ice, running down a mountain pass, or skiing through a rock chute. A (less-than) fun fact about Mr. Hollis is that he has broken a decent amount in his years outside - most recently his spine in March of 2025. His weirdest injury is that he bit his tongue in half falling off a bike! (P.S. - that's not his dog, he just wanted a picture with it).
